The SAS interfaces today frequently already integrated as standard on the motherboard offer extremely high data transfer rates, coupled with simple installation. A further factor relevant for costing is that SAS drives then no longer require a host adapter, such as often required for LVD-SCSI drives. For LTO-Ultrium drives, the new interface technology means a significant increase in the transfer rates. With an SAS interface therefore, this enables data back-up with an LTO-Ultrium 4 drive with a capacity of 800-1600 GB of up to 864 GB per hour at a speed of 240 MB/sec. All maximum capacities and data transfer rates are based on a compression ratio of 2:1.
